Frogs, Dragons, Aliens and Katydids

Here are some pictures from a summer trip to a local nature center:

Staring at the lily pads I said: "You know, I've never seen a frog on a lily pad." . . . "Hey! There's a frog! On a lily pad!"

And yes, there he is:

And a lovely dragonfly, thinking about getting a drink:

And some sort of cool, alien plant:

A wild rose:

And a nice little buggie (katydid) that spent a little time with us:

Snow Birdies

How did they do that? I can't imagine how the birds build their own snow bird! But there it is - out on the back deck - as clear as can be. (I swear I had nothing to do with it!) They don't even have thumbs!

Squirrel in the Snow

To continue with the squirrel theme - aren't you glad it's not like this outside any longer (or did I speak too soon?)

Doesn't he look cold and wet?

For a Cat She's Alright

Here's the Dutchess. Doesn't she look sweet? Don't let that fool you. She's still a cat. She has claws. And teeth.

But to give her a little credit, she rarely uses those teeth and claws. For a cat she's pretty cool.

Do you think she's actually looking out onto the deck at the birds and chipmunks? Or do you think she's just admiring her own reflection in the glass? I think the latter. She is a cat afterall.

Confused Upon Waking

Isn't that the prettiest little moth (or is it a butterfly?) you've ever seen? We found it sleeping on a leaf and took it for a walk around the park. When it woke, it was very confused. We'd moved it quite a distance. Hopefully it didn't mind too much.

Let Your Imagination Take Flight

Here's another picture from that recent trip to a local park. I'm not even sure what to say about this one. I could go so many ways. So, I'll just keep my thoughts to myself and won't taint your imaginings with my thoughts. Let your imagination take flight in whatever direction it is wont to go.

Mickey Moss and his Moss Buns

We recently visited a local park and saw a few cool things. Here's one of them. It's Mickey Moss!

Which reminded me of another moss picture that I don't believe I posted. It's moss buns!

 Enjoy!

Love Doves

These two little cuties spend a lot of time on our deck. Most of their time is spent in the bird seed tray - sometimes eating, sometimes sitting, sometimes sleeping. But they are always together. So cute!

A Chipmunk's Tale

We get visits from the local chipmunks on occasion, probably because we give them peanuts. Surprisingly enough we haven't named them yet, but here's one of the little critters enjoying a snack:

What do we have here?

Sniff sniff - smells OK.

Let's give it a taste.

Wow! That's good stuff! I'm gonna take this home with me.

My cheeks are full, but I think I could fit in another.

Got it! (you can see the shape of the peanut in his cheeks :) )

OK, I'm outta here!

Dried Up Leaves, Porcupines and Very Tall Trees

So, the other day we visited a nature park in the area. It was pretty cold out still, and there were no animals to be seen, and not even any plants or buds to be seen yet, but it was slightly warmer than it has been and we wanted some fresh air.

And despite the appalling lack of spring-like stuff, we managed to find some nice things to look at:

Some dried up leaves against the blue sky:

A tree masquerading as a porcupine:

A tree in the distance lit by a ray of sun:

Interlaced tree roots:

Some very snake-like roots:

And lots of very tall trees:

A cold, but fun day.

Footprints At My Door

I love when the birds leave their prints behind in the snow. They are so cute!

You've Been Chosen For a Squozen!

Bam! the rainbow ram came along with us on our trip. Bam! turned out to be quite the adventurer! He even has his own song:

Bam! Bam! The rainbow ram.
Such a dare-devil ram
He likes to be squoze.

No, that's not a typ-o. He does like to be squoze. And what, pray tell, is squoze? It's the past tense of squeeze. He really enjoys a good hug! It can also be used this way - "You've been chosen for a squozen!" And when you hear that, watch out! A hug is on the way.

In any case, here are some photos of Bam! at Disney:

Heading to the boardwalk:

Bam! enjoys a nice hearty breakfast:

Bam! likes to take risks. He enjoys playing with lions:

Bam! is a huge fan of Oprah!

Bam! wants to take a ride:

Getting a better view from the trees:

Bam! loves to mountain climb:

It's always good to look cool with superstar shades!

Bam! is very friendly and makes friends easily:

Bam! checking out the view:

Bam! wants to go for a swim but is afraid his woolly coat will shrink. He also forgot his swim trunks:

So Bam! decided to get an ice cream treat instead:

And then it was time to head home. Here's Bam! at the airport:

Bam! never looks back, only ahead. Ahead to his bright and awesome future:

Bam! had a great time on is vacation! And so did we!
